SEW-EURODRIVE and HIMA Sign Development Agreement

One year after announcing their mutual technology partnership, SEW-EURODRIVE and HIMA today signed a new agreement for developing the safety-related controller HM31 for use in SEW-EURODRIVE’s decentralized drivers and application solution MOVIPRO®.
Because of their complementary and proven products and competencies, HIMA and SEW-EURODRIVE represent an ideal partnership in this sector. SEW-EURODRIVE is a leading specialist in drive technology and automation, while HIIMA is a global leader in safety-automated solutions.

Partnership built on success Last year, the two companies announced a mutual framework agreement for a technology partnership during SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2008, an international trade show for automation. The agreement outlined the integration of HIMA's safety-related control technology into the drive solutions from SEW-EURODRIVE.

Signed November 23, the new agreement will enable the further development of HM31 for use in MOVIPRO®, offering customers a universal drive solution for the field while providing a wide range of functions for numerous decentralized application areas. This technology is typically used in mobile conveyor systems such as industrial forklift trucks and electrical suspension rail systems – important intralogistics components for the modular factories of the future.

Looking ahead The companies are currently preparing marketing measures for the solution, including the launch of the safety product, which is being coordinated by a group of HIMA and SEW employees with expertise in the related branches and applications. The first prototype is expected to debut at the Hannover Trade Fair 2010, with the launch of the NULL series at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010 and introduction of the series product at the Hannover Trade Fair 2011. Another focus of the new partnership is safe communications. As such, the companies are developing a lean and fast, Ethernet-based safety protocol to meet the special requirements of drive-related application solutions.
