HIMA to supply VRS Railway Industry with SIL 4 safety systems as part of 10-year contract

HIMA Benelux B.V. and the Dutch company VRS Railway Industry B.V. have agreed to a 10-year contract that calls for HIMA to supply safety-related controllers that are rated SIL 4, in accordance with CENELEC.

VRS has developed next-generation railway crossings based on HIMA HIMatrix® systems in cooperation with Movares, a Dutch engineering consultancy. Proven in logistics and machine safety, HIMatrix controllers comprise a commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS) solution that helps operators lower lifecycle costs by streamlining development, reducing maintenance and minimizing the need for spare parts.

"We opted for programmable safety controllers from HIMA because it is one of the few suppliers of SIL 4 systems (CENELEC) already established in the railway sector," said Carlus van Maarschalkerweerd, VRS.

Two HIMatrix F30 and six to eight remote I/O modules connected via safeethernet are used for each railway crossing. The systems meet all the relevant railway standards, have short delivery times and provide high investment safety due to long product lifecycles.
