Rail and safety systems specialist Sella Controls, A HIMA Company, are pleased to announce the contract award by Nexus Tyne and Wear Metro for the renewal of their Traction Power SCADA System.

Stuart Griffin, Project Manager (E&M) at Nexus commented: “We are pleased to award the contract to Sella Controls and look forward to working with them on this critical project for Nexus that will provide us with the latest SCADA technology”.

The program of works will see Sella Controls deliver a complete dual redundant SCADA system, substation RTU, control room overview mimic and extensive simulator and training tools. On completion of the renewal program, Sella Controls will provide support for the system annually, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance regimes over a multi-year period.

The proposed solution will utilise the company’s latest TRACKLINK® SCADA and RTU products that have already been extensively used across the mainline UK rail network.

Chris Elliott, Sales Director for Global Rail at HIMA Group: “The award of this contract by Nexus is excellent news for both our UK and our global Rail business. Having worked previously with Nexus, it’s great to continue to develop, build and strengthen our relationship.”

The SCADA Renewal program will be the latest in project success for Sella Controls with Nexus, having previously delivered systems in the 1990’s for track to train communication and more recently supply its TRACKLINK® III to the new rolling stock fleet providing Radio Changeover control.

Elliott commented further: “When we began the development of our SCADA product suite it was our aim to offer our client a complete modern end to end solution. This award is major milestone for our Tracklink SCADA product suite. We are looking forward to working closely with, and delivering this project for our client Nexus.”

Jörg de la Motte, CEO of HIMA Group commented: “This is a significant award for the HIMA Group. With our solution we will support a modern reliable metro network. The HIMA Group are pleased to be a long term partner of Nexus”.

The award of this project by Nexus, alongside projects for Manchester Metrolink, Docklands Light Rail and London Tram now places HIMA Group as a key supplier in the global light rail market place.

HIMA Group will be present at InnoTrans 2024, Berlin in September. During the fair we will be presenting many rail solutions that utilise HIMA’s ‘Independent Open Safety Platform’ and our latest ‘Tracklink product suite’. This this includes solutions for on board, signalling and electrification applications.
